Bibliography
I have tried to gather a wide-ish selection of different sources of information about the peoples of Transylvania (in particular) and Romania. There is no order or emphasis by their presence in the list. If you have any other sources, please forward them on to me. I am particularly looking out for more traditional Saxon, Hungarian/Szekler, Romanian and Jewish music from Transylvania to put here.
Transylvania:
- Safeguarding the Saxon heritage in Transylvania - Intbau, 2006 (pdf). Report of a cultural heritage and development project in Transylvania, between 2002-5, with the intention of preparing a Romanian village (Laslea) for EU entry.
- Topografia monumentelor din Transilvania - Brukenthal Museum (pdf), Sibiu, 2006. Excellent and knowledgeable report detailing the history and topography of Saxon Mediaş (in Romanian). Part 2.
- Workshop on eco-tourism and cultural heritage - Intbau, 2005 (pdf). Report of a village development workshop, held in Laslea.
- BBC report on Transylvania’ rich ethnic identities. (audio file - link to the BBC).
- Countryfile in Romania - Countryfile’s superb special on Transylvania (video).
- 360° panoramic view of Dealu Frumos.
- 360° panoramic view of Biertan (several years old, so does not show the new square layout).
- Agreed motorway route from Hungary to Brasov.
- 360° panoramic views of Brasov and other Transylvanian and Romanian towns, cities and rural vistas.
Romania:
- The 20 best places to make money: A Place in the Sun (pdf). Magazine article showing Romania as the top place in Europe to invest in property or land, over the next decade or so, according to a top accountancy firm. Interesting, if true.
